Pinakothiki restaurant Nicosia Sometimes I wonder how biased my reviews are. They are definitely subjective as they are clearly based on my opinion but perhaps sometimes there is a bias due to the month I am writing the review, the time of day I visit the place and my mood in general. As I visited “Pinakothiki” right when the weather had started getting warm, for a beautiful Holy Thursday lunch while being in an early holiday mood, one could say it created a bias on my review. Nevertheless, I more than enjoyed it and I am very pleased that we finally managed to do something “properly”.
Where do I begin…Perhaps with how happy I am that there is, finally a “pinakothiki” (art gallery) in the centre of the city? With the fact that it is on Makarios avenue in an “alternative” location, with a fantastic courtyard? Or with how pleasant, refined and fresh the café/restaurant décor and ambiance is? Its modern and classy and gives out a peaceful vibe. In fact given the peaceful quiet, I thought it would be empty but it was actually full.
The menu reflects well on the atmosphere and the concPinakothiki restaurant Nicosiaept. It consists of international choices but not the usual, predictable dishes. Starters like duck wrap and tuna carpaccio, a salad with seafood and finocchio, cannelloni with mascarpone and spinach created an easy-going and attractive menu. From the main courses the oven-baked salmon with soya-ginger sauce was very tasty in a light kind of way, while the pork chop with crispy fries and steamed vegetables was quite tender and flavoursome in a simple way. Our chicken and avocado salad with a light mayo dressing was rich but nPinakothiki restaurant Nicosiaot overwhelming while the tuna carpaccio for 5 something euros was refreshing and quite good value for money.
Snacks, desserts and platters have also made their way into the menu, while coffee at around 3euros and fresh juices at 3.50 are also available.
A rather “sophisticated” meal with 2 starters, 2 main courses and a large bottle of water each in such a lovely place came out to 20euros which I thought was fair. Even the service – I had heard that it was slow – was quite friendly and attentive. Verdict: revisit soon!
