Surely Easter Monday lunch is a diffucicult task, mainly because restaurants are either closed or full (hence stressful and often difficult for them to “perform”). Fortunately this was not the case at Yiannis’s in the center of Kathikas village…finally a place that justifies its good reputation.
The ambiance is quite traditional with a lovely patio and a relatively small inside space. The food is mainly “meze”, and of course “souvla” that is not always served but a “must” for Easter Monday. The starters and dips were very good, even though the pasticcio was a bit cold. The main highlight was the well-cooked “souvla” and the potatoes. The spinach with eggs, zucchini meatballs and traditional sausage were also quite good, even though less memorable. Fortunately the home made “galaktobourekko” which was offered for dessert was up to standards, all creamy and fresh, while the carob bread (“koulourakia”) that were supposed to be a highlight were very average reminding more of bread dough than a proper dessert.
Nevertheless for 20€ each and two bottles of Cyprus wine for 4 people we remained quite satisfied from the food/atmosphere combo. The reason it gets a Cypriot and Proud star is that it has a little bit of everything.
