Right when I thought Kakopetria was full of touristy restaurants that have been there forever, I find Tzoumerka to change my mind. The very sweet Ms Vayia and Mr Constantinos from Tzoumerka villages in Ipiros (Greece) opened Tzoumerka with the vision of offering something different to visitors of this very popular Cyprus village by serving authentic Greek dishes.
The well cooked and delicious “ovelias” (whole lamb cooked on a large “foukou”) is a must, whereas the Greek dish “frigadeli” (like kontosouvli without the intestines, ie marinated chunks of pork, skewered on a rod and cooked on the barbecue), was also quite good. “Saganaki mbougiourdi” (slow cooked tomato and feta cheese in a clay pot), was quite tasty, while the goat soup was fantastic. Their speciality is leek sausages which however, is only served on weekdays, so we did not have the pleasure of trying it out. All of the above was enjoyed over some Cypriot house wine as the wine list was quite limited.
All in all the food was very good, mainly because it is different to the standard Cypriot “meze”. The space itself is slightly too big for it to be described as a cute traditional place, but the patio is much better.
