If you need proof that a small and simple place with basic but good quality “meze” could work, then you should visit “Kouventoloi”. There is nothing extremely different or unique about this small taverna/”ouzeri”, but a little bit of everything: cute with a lot of attention to detail, high quality meat and very good live music.
It serves a simple “meze” that, apart from the standard salads, dips, local sausage, halloumi and kebab, also includes marinated chicken and my personal favourite, “gyros”. It is busiest on Wednesday-Saturday, which are also the days when they play quality live music. There are no microphones or speakers, but only a guitar, a “mpouzouki” and usually a singer. Mr Lambros, the owner, and the rest of the guests often join in, so if you are a Greek oldies fan, “ Kouventoloi” is a must-visit. From May-October one can also sit outside and enjoy their meal “al fresco”, even though it is a quite busy street.
All in all we definitely like this small and cute taverna because whatever is in it, it is prepared and developed with love and care. Whoever said less is more was definitely right!
