A very “Cypriot” taverna in Paralimni, that, despite being a bit too big and busy it serves quite good food.
I have been hearing about Ttappis for a few years but as I was always coming back to Cyprus for a week or two I always preferred to go and have fish by the beach. On a random Saturday after the beach I thought I should finally try it. The polite waiter said that on Saturdays they only serve “meze“, but on weekdays one has the option to order a-la-carte (probably because they are always very busy on weekends).
The salad and the dips were quite good and the bread was freshly baked. The first dish to arrive was the “kleftiko”. I would have preferred if it was served as the last dish, but nevertheless it was very tasty, soft and tender. The juicy pork fillet was very good and and so was the grilled chicken which was surprisingly tasty. What I liked least was Ttappis’ “souvlaki” as it lacked flavour and secondly its seasonal vegetables with eggs, as the egg taste was a bit too strong. The grilled mushrooms looked good but they came right at the end and we were too full to even taste them. That didn’t affect our dessert appetite of course, as the “bourekkia” with honey were excellent, perfectly sweet and perfect to finish off our meal.
It is one of the good tavernas in the area and one that I would return for “meze”, without it being a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We paid 47€ for two people with a small “Zivania” bottle which could have been a lot but nowadays it seems like the market price.
