10 things NOT to do

  1. Never plan your shopping on Wednesday afternoon as shops and supermarkets. Everything is also closed on a Sunday a few supermarkets and shops in touristy areas.
  2. Never order Turkish coffee. The same coffee is called Cypriot coffee in Cyprus (and Greek coffee in Greece)…it was originally Byzantine. All you have to do is ask for one “sketto” (no sugar), “metrio” (one spoon of sugar) or “glyki” (2 spoons of sugar).
  3. Don’t underestimate the sun and put as much sun block as you can.
  4. Make sure not to go to all the touristy places just because they are easier to find. Most of Cyprus treasures are a bit harder to find but truly worth it.
  5. Feel free to negotiate prices as much as you can, but use your judgement to identify appropriate places to do it.
  6. If you are staying in one resort don’t spend your entire holidays there. Ask around for good “tavernas” and nice places to eat as it is truly worth it. Hotels usually offer international dishes and overpriced food (as in most of the touristy places).
  7. Don’t go to dinner at 19:30. People eat after 21:00 and I guarantee you, you will be by yourself (or maybe with other tourists).
  8. Don’t hesitate to ask locals about recommendations. They are a much better source of information than guides and brochures.
  9. Don’t come to Cyprus without checking out Cypriot and Proud!
  10. Finally, have a wonderful stay!!!!!!!
