Even though it has been open for a few months now last week was the first visit for me mostly because I don’t usually do afternoon coffee. I can’t say that there is anything that makes it differentiate from its 3 neighbouring cafes, but nevertheless for a well-priced and relaxing coffee break anytime of the day it seems to be an appropriate place.Kafenio Nicosia
What I liked about it is that its whole image fits-in with the old city vibe as it has kept a simple and casual décor with the traditional Cyprus tiles and wooden chairs. I also liked the fact that they serve “raki” (Greek traditional drink) and often “rakomelo” (raki with honey) at only 9€ a jar, as well as a quite good 2.50€ cappuccino freddo. I would prefer if they had more nibbles to go with the drinking but it is probably part of it being more of a café rather than a bar or a restaurant. Snack options like halloumi-in-pita or toast, however, are available anytime of the day but I guess if one wants to keep it casual and less complicated with low costs keeping it simple is inevitable.
The way I see it, if you are in the neighbourhood and looking for a casual and good value for money café any of the three neighbouring cafes in a row would be an equally safe option.
