After two years in Limassol I believe I have found the definition of home-cooked food and value for money where I least expected it. It might be a no brainer for locals and Cyprus university studends around the old cityL1100990 of Limassol, but it certainly was a hidden gem for people like me.
I wouldn’t call it a restaurant, or even a “magirio” as it only has a couple of small tables outside and no tables inside. It is more like a typical sandwich parlour that happens to serve home-cooked, “magirio” type food for take-away. What surprised me was the variety it offers for such a small place, but what won me over was the fact that you can have half portions (hence easier to make a decision as to what to eat) and that each half portion was in fact extra large but only priced at 2-2.50€. I actually wanted three different things but I went for the pork “youvetsi”, which was basically flavoursome orzo with tomato sauce and pork cubes, and delicious “gemista” (vegetables stuffed with minced meat and rice). I left behind thL1100991e white beans in tomato sauce which my proud Cypriot friend order together with half a portion of home-made fried meatballs. It is worth mentioning that each portions being is in fact very big, it is also served with two slices of Cypriot sour bread, and finally, the price for each such portion is 4€! We ended up paying 7€ each as we also ordered an extra salad and two soft drinks which was much less than what we pay anywhere else, for much more food.
If you work or live around the area and you don’t mind sitting outside or having your food take-away, you have found a new favourite place. What is also good about it is that apart from 4-6 choices of home-cooked food prepared daily, you have the sandwich option for any proud Cypriot friends who would rather have a sandwich.
