While writing this I am thinking I probably should have written about this place a lot earlier. Why haven’t I? God knows. I first visited Moondogs around 6-7 months ago on a casual spring evening and then I completely forgot about it. Having said that I really shouldn’t have. It is a one-of-a-kind place in a lot of aspects. It is the only proper sports bar and pub in the city – meaning, it is not a pub that shows sports, but a sports bar. It is also one of the few proper “American joints”. Think of a revamped TGI Friday kind of menu appropriate for an older age group. Moondog is where “Seven” cafe/restaurant used to be which seems to have worked quite well as it seems to attract a lot of Nicosians since its opening.
As usual, I will start with the ambiance and décor. It is, and looks like, an American pub/restaurant. As with all the American pub/restaurants that I have been to the decorative element mostly used is dark wood with a long bar at the entrance, high and low tables around the rooms of what used to be an old house and –of course, a pool table. It is quite lively and buzzing day and night, proven from the fact that I have visited it on a Saturday afternoon and on a Wednesday night and in bothcases it wasalmost packed.
The foodsuits the ambiance as it is American with a slight international touch. Burgers, steaks and platters are the main constituents of the menu, all of them served with lots of cheese and lots of fries! The fact that it has 10 different burgers (including a bacon, cheddar cheese and fried egg burger) and a prawn burger I guess makes it a burger bar as well. Furthermore, one can choose out of a list of seafood and main courses such as pork chops, marinated kebab and hot dogs as well as of course, a rib eye steak cooked and served according to your preference.
My pork chop was surprisingly big and juicy and it was served with extra crispy fries. The truth is it was a slightly lighter and more conservative option than the melted cheddar cheese burger my proud Cypriot friend ordered which looked amazing with cheese dripping around the sides of the patty. The beef wasn’t extremely ground while the beef taste was quite herby, just as I like it.
I haven’t had a chance to try the platters that include sliders, sausages and BBQ wings, which I am guessing are quite popular amongst the sports fans that visit the place regularly.
I wasn’t going to say a lot about the drinks menu as I only had a glass of wine (how proper of me!). However, the long list of Weisse beers, worldwide specialty beers and fruit beers is worth mentioning, and so is the long list of malt whiskey.
Finally 8-12€ for a main course I thought was a fair price as our meal cost less than 20€ with a drink each. If I were to describe Moondogs in a sentence I would say it is a unique, easy-going and a safe-option kind of place. If you want good food in a lively environment (even if you don’t watch a lot of sports) it is worth a visit.

Hi! Allow me to disagree and it's definitely not because of quantity!
Your 3.5/5 ratings about the Taverna are unreasonable and do not agree
Nope. Although that would have been ideal :)
I also think that it's really important that they have gluten free and
