I visited Tomato a couple of years ago, and I visited it last week. It is not that common to go to a place two years later and find the the quality has not changed. The location is different, the vibe is different but the value for money remains.
By a “changed location” I simply mean it moved two stores down, into the small alley by Saripolou avenue. It is now a much smaller place with a handful of tables inside, a few more outside. The fresh, colourful and casual ambiance with goes well with the type of food and prices Tomato offers.
We went for a casual weekday lunch to enjoy a good pizza. Needless to say pizza was not all we enjoyed. Being greedy foodies we shared a salad, a pizza and a pasta dish. Each category had 5-8 choices tempting options, all under 10€, something you don’t see often.
The “Parmigiana di Pollo” salad with chicken and Cesar dressing was very large in size, enough to satisfy the appetite of a hungry person. The dressing looked rich but it wasn’t as much, while the green vegetables were fresh. All in all a good dish to have if you are craving for something lighter.
We also shared the “Arrabiata” with taglatelle- also large in size. I liked how the sauce was on the top and not mixed with the pasta, and I also liked how there was an option of choosing your preferred type of pasta.
The highlight for me was the pizza. We had the “Quattro stagioni” with bacon, ham, mushrooms and pepperoni. The crust was extra thin with a lot of cheese on top. It was melting hot and full of flavour, something you definitely have to try, either at home (since it offers a delivery service), or at the restaurant.
I would love to try the “4 Formaggi” and the “Farmhouse. I am definitely adding on my list of places to order take-out. Sharing 3 generously sized dishes for 20€ (10€/each) was amazingly cheap for any standard.
