New spring menu at DOT

6A Athinas, 22101228, LEFKOSIA (NICOSIA)

Returning once again at DOT, this time to check out their new spring, summer menu. I am always excited when restaurants change their menu according to the season, because for me that means that they are researching and testing new ideas and of course they are using seasonal ingredients.
At DOT, one of my personal favourites, they surely know what they are doing and this time, they are changing not only the menu, but the presentation of the dishes as well. At first I thought maybe this is going to be fancier, because as soon as you see too much detail on the plate you immediately think maybe smaller portions and more expensive menus. But here this is not the case. The portions were perfectly balanced and simply flawless. Aesthetically pleasing, refined and elegant dishes, without being over the top.
For the new spring menu DOT now offers specific vegetarian and vegan selections both in food and desserts. This is something very useful for the customers, since Polis the owner told me that they were already offering them although they were not labelled as Vegan.
The menu offers new selections such as the most delicious starter, my personal favourite at the moment, the marinated fresh anchovies bruschetta with fennel, artichoke, tomato and basil, so very refreshing and light. I also tried the risotto croquettes with asparagus and aromatic crust glazed with pomegranate, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, literally melting in your mouth. A very satisfying combination with truly fine flavours.
The salad with the selection of lettuce hearts, yellow and red cherry tomatoes, cucumber, radish, fresh onion and feta cheese served with olive oil bread sticks, a pure vegetarian dish was tasty and light.
For the main dish I went for the amazing fresh sea beam fillet with crunchy chorizo which is optional (but I had to have this since I just love it), served with fresh carrot mash and fresh peas on top. Moist enough, fresh and what I also liked about this dish was that the peas were not overcooked and that felt really nice and added to the freshness.
And of course I could not but end this wonderful lunch with my dessert. I was curious about the vegan selections and since I’m not a fan of milk, I thought of trying the panna cotta with coconut milk and strawberry sauce, rum and mint, garnished with a fancy shape of caramel on top.  In case this is not too sweet for you, you can break the caramel piece and mix it with the panna cotta and there you go. I felt that the coconut milk was not too strong as a taste and I kind of liked that, with a discrete touch of rum. The end the mint was like an explosion of a cool burst in my mouth.
Overall, my spring visit at DOT was fully satisfying. I really enjoy this very bright restaurant at the corner of a small street in the old city of Nicosia. Good food, fine music and very friendly service.

DOT brunch weekends continue strong and every day you can treat yourself with a mini brunch serving their 12 best sellers from the big brunch menu. Also, keep an eye on the very value for money “traditional lunch box” menu, with six very creative homemade dishes, mainly vegetarian. Check the FB page for more.
