Value for money now has a new meaning. So is the “easy lunch”. All set by Koi. It’s central, it’s cute, and it’s the answer to the question: so what should we eat today that’s cheap, good and fast?
The area and particularly the street it’s on is quite hip lately with Skinny Fox and Pyxida Oyster Bar surrounding it. It’s quite small but the fact it has a minimalistic decor doesn’t make you feel crowded at all. The veranda is surrounded by plants creating a feeling of privacy although only meter away from the street. The tables are quite small for sharing but we didn’t mind as the friendly waiter brought over extra stools for some plates.
The menu on a front and back A3 page has all the usual suspects. The “starters” include 2 salads, tempura and popcorn shrimps, beef bao buns and noodles which looked yummy. Apart from that it’s just sushi: sashimi, nigiri and maki rolls.
The Koi salad with mango and ponzu dressing was refreshing with a familiar oriental sour flavour. For 4€ I definitely expected something tiny (or average) and i was neither! The salmon nigiri (also 4€ for 6 pieces) I must admit did have a pale colour but flavour-wise it was ok, especially for the price. We also shared the salmon teriyaki and the California roll for 4€ (8 pieces) and 3€ (4 pieces), respectively.
We paid 29€ for two people with water and a soft drink. I mean, that’s less than 15€ each for sushi in a pleasant a modern space with very good service… AND we had leftovers. The first thing that comes to mind is, what the hell do they feed us? But I don’t want to be prejudice and just say, value for money was extremely high, and I would definitely go there again for a quick sushi fix.
