A very long overdue review that I was more than happy to write (and even happier to taste) is this of the revamped venue of The Boys. I’m not going to lie. Although I’ve been to The Boys when it opened and actually liked it, having 1, then 2 then 3 kids made it quite hard to visit as pram access was difficult. Unlike before, The Boys at Number Five is bigger (although not huge), with a beautiful courtyard. I love the fact that it’s right off one of the busiest streets in Nicosia, yet very quiet yet. The ambiance is overall quite relaxed and peaceful with earth colours and natural materials found around the space.
And to the point: what can one eat? On weekends the menu consists of “Weekend Specials” because as Constantinos said, if you include really special dishes in a big menu everyone opts for the usual suspects. On the other hand, if the menu is shorter with less “standard” dishes people are more willing to try new things. We couldn’t help but order the Avocado Toast with mashed avocado, poached eggs, goats cheese, peas and homemade chimichurri sauce. Although rich in looks and texture It was quite easy and light to eat. The Eggs Royale with Norwegian smoked salmon were very well cooked, as runny as they should be (something we often have an issue with), and a special homemade Hollandaise sauce.
The Blueberry Pancakes were fluffy, mildly sweet and the ideal comfort food. My kids devoured them in no time.
The most impressive dish was definitely the Shakshuka, comparable to some of the best ones I’ve had: organic eggs, caramelized bell peppers, onions, tomato sauce and harissa pepper was mildly spicy and great if you are after a more savoury type breakfast.
One thing to note is that on weekdays there is a proper lunch menu which I haven’t tried yet, but judging for their brunch menu I must get to it soon.
I don’t know if it’s the best brunch in the capital but it’s definitely ticks all the boxes: creative menu, excellent flavour and presentation, very stylish and pleasant ambiance and good prices. Douze points for these boys at The Boys.
