Hummus Bar

The most saved photograph on my Instagram account over the past few weeks is indeed Hummus Bar. It’s not fancy, it’s not big and it only offers wraps, dips, salads and some signature dishes like Shakshuka. PLUS it’s vegetarian food only. But it’s different, if offers freshly prepared authentic food with high quality ingredients and above all, food tastes fantastic. So to conclude, if you want to succeed: specialise and beg to differ from the ordinary, take risks and do what you’re good at.

When I say small I mean tiny. It’s right on the traffic lights by “tzamouda”, (yes it’s a landmark), and it has 2-3 super small tables and a small bar to order as it’s mainly for take-away. Although I went by myself I had to try a few things, (food for 4 to be precise), to get a good idea of what it’s about.

The dip selection was extremely inviting but I decided to go with a fresh babaganush dip to start off. Very garlicky and yummy was almost addictive.

The Heaven in a Bowl salad with spinach, edamame beans, beets, pumpkin seeds and cous cous instead of quinoa as I am intolerant to that (#truestory) was refreshing and filling – all made fresh from scratch. I liked the Israeli cous cous which was bigger than the traditional Moroccan one, almost like small pasta, it gave the salad a different feel.

As the owner and chef said, the place is a Middle Eastern mix. Now it’s probably a good time to also mention that most of the ingredients are organic, everything is fresh and all dishes are made from scratch (besides the pitta bread which he brings from Lebanon).

My Green Falafel Wrap was definitely the cherry on the cake: rich in texture, light in flavour with a kick of Middle East balancing out the light but not dull taste.

As if I didn’t have enough the owner offered the traditional falafel for me to try with a homemade tahini sauce and even in the pure form they were yummy.

I am definitely going back for the Shakshuka (eggs, peppers, onion garlic and tomato sauce), the Go Beet wrap, the Vegetarian Gyros wrap and all the other dips. When all dishes are great then you can be confident that it’s good. The only problem if you ask me is that it doesn’t have delivery service (not that it would come to Germasogeia where I currently live) but…..coming soon I was told!!! All of the above for 12euros ain’t too shabby.
